چکیده

The work reported here evaluates whether bacteria populating arid and salty environments can confer resistance in tomato and pepper plants to water stress. Plant growth-promoting bacteria that have ACC deaminase activity were isolated from soil samples taken from the Arava region of southern Israel. One of these strains, Achromobacter piechaudii ARV8 [Mayak et al., Plant growth-promoting bacteria that confer resistance in tomato and pepper plants to salt stress, submitted for publication.] significantly increased the fresh and dry weights of both tomato and pepper seedlings exposed to transient water stress. In addition, the bacterium reduced the production of ethylene by tomato seedlings, following water stress. During water deprivation the bacterium did not influence the reduction in relative water content; however, it significantly improved the recovery of plants when watering was resumed. Inoculation of tomato plants with the bacterium resulted in continued plant growth during both the water stress and after watering was resumed. Based on the results of the experiments reported herein, the use of plant growth-promoting bacteria such as A. piechaudii ARV8 may provide a means of facilitating plant growth in arid environments. © 2003 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Effect of Co-Application of Auxin-Producing Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria and Tryptophan on Wheat Growth under Water Stress Conditions

Auxin produced by plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPR) in the wheat rhizosphere, can improve plant yield under water deficit stress condition. To investigate this issue, a completely randomized factorial design with three replications was conducted under greenhouse condition at the University of Maragheh, Eastern-Azarbayjan, Iran during 2019. Treatments were two types of growth-promoting bact...

Plant growth promoting bacteria effects on growth, photosynthetic pigments and root nutrients uptake of Avena sativa L. under drought stress

Drought stress is one of the most important factors affecting plant growth. Plant growth under drought stress may be enhanced by the application of microbial inoculation including plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. This research was conducted as a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design. The first factor included the bio-fertilizer (A. vinelandii (A)), P. agglomerans+ P. ...

Effects of Water Stress and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycoperseci on Growth (leaf area, plant height, shoot dry matter) and Shoot Nitrogen Content of Tomatoes Under Greenhouse Conditions

Effects of water stress and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycoperseci (Fol) on the growth of tomatoes were studied in a greenhouse experiment. Treatments consisted of five levels of water stress (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 day irrigation intervals). Infested soil consisting of 400 chlamydospores g1 of Fol and non infested soil were used. Experiments arranged in a completely randomized design with 8 replicati...

The effect of plant growth promoting potentials of rhizosphere bacteria isolated from several halophytic species on vegetative growth and ionic content of wheat

Salinity stress is an important challenge for wheat production in the world. Plant growth promoting rhizosphere bacteria, isolated from halophytic plants, can increase the tolerance of crop plants to salinity by direct and indirect mechanisms. In this study, plant growth-promoting traits of bacterial strains (Bacillus safensis, Bacillus pumilus and Zhihengliuella halotolerans), isolated from th...

Effect of seed priming with selenium nanoparticles and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria on improving Quinoa seedling growth under salinity stress

Soil and water salinity are the most important problems that limit crop production, especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of growth-promoting bacteria and selenium nanoparticle pretreatment on increasing the tolerance of the Chenopodium quinoa plant to salinity. A factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with...
